In 1933, three decades after the founding of Goodwill Industries in Boston by the Methodist minister Rev. Edgar Helms, Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada was established. Over the next 73 years, Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley & Northern Nevada housed itself in a number of quarters - a church, an abandoned firehouse, a stately home and finally in 1965 in its own building.
Goodwill worked collaboratively with new and established community groups throughout the Sacramento Valley. The local organization developed a reputation for repaying its loans, mirroring its commitment to the concept that no individual or organization goes through life "entitled" - that efforts may be rewarded but only if efforts were truly made.
